Popcorn Buckets

Popcorn Buckets

There are quite a few good, or even great, snack deals at Disney World. And today I am going to talk to you about one of my favorites. Popcorn buckets!

All of the Disney parks sell popcorn, and it comes in a decently sized paper cup, or a large plastic bucket. The paper cup costs $4.50, and the bucket cost $10 but comes with refills, each being $1.75. And, it is refillable for the entire time you are at Disney! They do eventually expire, but it takes so long that it’s really only a problem if you live here - and even then it’s still an amazing deal. Overall it’s a great way to spend a lot less on snacks while you are in the parks and also get a a cute souvenir to take home.

But wait, there’s more! Not only are they refillable buckets, they’re cool refillable buckets! Some popcorn stalls have specialty buckets that sound pretty silly until you jealously see someone else walking around with one. I’ve seen spooky Witch Cauldrons, Star Wars ATATs, a big green Oogie Boogie, and even a large Mickey balloon shaped one! Unfortunately, they’re as cute as they are expensive. I’ve seen them priced at over $20 for some of the more outrageous ones. But, they could still be a good deal if you wanted something specially themed as a take home souvenir. Or if you want a cool popcorn bucket for at home use while you binge watch Disney movies.

Tips:

  1. I often use the bucket as a “get out of hangry tantrum free” card. Whenever Abigail gets hungry and demands a snack I can spend $1.75 to keep her happily fed for a long while. Most other Disney snacks are $5 or more, so this works out well for my wallet.

  2. There is a handle that hooks nicely on my stroller. Plus the lid is tight and is pretty rain / duck / squirrel resistant (the local critters are pretty fearless and -will- rob you blind if you let them). So in a pinch you can use it to store other items you don’t want exposed to the elements.

  3. When leaving the parks there are usually popcorn stands near the exit. You can get it refilled while leaving the park. Eat it in the hotel room at night, or as a snack for the drive home. It keeps people happy when they would otherwise be very tired / hungry at the end of the day.

I do need to point out that the these buckets are seasonal. So if you live here, or plan to come multiple times per year, then they will eventually expire. If you try to get a Christmas bucket refilled during the summer expect them politely tell you they can’t refill it, and offer you whichever new one they have at the time. I think I have like four of these buckets lying around my house. We use the expired ones for sandcastles at the beach or to hold sidewalk chalk in the garage.

So, in conclusion! Popcorn buckets rock. If you have any other clever uses for the buckets please let me know in the comments below. I’m always looking for fun new ideas!
